At Hillcrest Elementary, we have two ESE programs, Varying Exceptionalities (VE), and Speech and Language.
The VE program serves students in grades K-5. Students with specific learning disabilities receive services in a pull-out resource classroom by the exceptional education teacher. Instruction focuses on the individual needs of each student, which is documented on the student's Individual Education Plan (IEP).

Speech and Language Impaired (SLI)
Speech and language impairments are defined as disorders of language, articulation, fluency, or voice which interfere with communication, pre academic or academic learning, vocational training, or social adjustment. The Speech and Language Program at Hillcrest Elementary provides service to students in grades PK-5. Hillcrest Elementary provides pull out services for students who have speech and language needs. These services consist of the Speech-Language Pathologist working with the parent and teacher to develop a therapeutic program that is reflected on the Individualized Education Plan. Treatment is provided by the Speech Language Pathologist and supported by the parent and teacher. Therapy is administered in a group setting while focusing on the individual needs of each student.
